Why a Default GA4 Install Is Not Enough
Pasting the Google tag onto a site starts data collection, but the admin settings that decide how that data is processed are left at defaults that rarely fit a real business.
Data Expires After Two Months
GA4 defaults event data retention to two months, which limits explorations and year over year analysis until someone changes it.
Your Own Team Inflates Traffic
Without internal traffic rules and developer filters, staff visits and QA sessions are counted alongside real customers.
Payment Gateways Steal Credit
Missing referral exclusions let PayPal, Stripe or booking tools appear as the source of conversions instead of the original campaign.
What We Configure in Your GA4 Property
Each item below is set in GA4 admin or in Google Tag Manager, then recorded in a setup document so your team knows exactly how the property works.
Web Data Stream and Google Tag
A single web stream with the Google tag deployed through GTM, and enhanced measurement options reviewed one by one.
Retention and Reporting Identity
Event data retention extended to the maximum available and reporting identity chosen to suit your consent setup.
Internal and Developer Traffic Filters
IP based internal traffic rules and a developer traffic filter so testing never pollutes production reports.
Cross-Domain and Referral Rules
Cross-domain measurement for linked domains and unwanted referral exclusions for payment and booking tools.
Key Events and Google Ads Link
Business-critical events marked as key events and the property linked to Google Ads for import and audiences.
Consent Mode v2
Default and update consent states wired to your consent banner so GA4 behaves correctly for every visitor choice.
How a Configured GA4 Property Processes Data
Tags collect the hits, but the property settings decide what is kept, filtered, attributed and shared with Google Ads.
Visitor lands and consent state is set
Page view and configured events fire
Hits arrive tagged with stream settings
Internal traffic and referrals handled
Clean data ready for analysis
Key events imported for bidding

GA4 Setup FAQ
Straight answers before you book. Still have a question? Talk to us directly.
How long does a GA4 setup take?
A standard setup for a single website is usually completed within a week of receiving access. Sites with multiple domains, subdomains or a complex consent setup can take longer, and we agree a timeline after the initial review.
Should we create a new GA4 property or fix the existing one?
In most cases fixing the existing property is better because it keeps your historical data. We only recommend a new property when the current one has an unrecoverable problem, such as being owned by an account you cannot access.
Does GA4 setup include event tracking?
Setup covers the property configuration, the Google tag, enhanced measurement and your main key events. Detailed custom events, such as scroll milestones, video engagement or multi-step form tracking, are covered by our GA4 Event Tracking service.
What is the difference between a conversion and a key event?
Google renamed GA4 conversions to key events. A key event marks an important action in GA4 reports. When you import it into Google Ads it becomes a conversion action that can be used for bidding and campaign reporting.
Can you set up GA4 on Shopify, WordPress or Webflow?
Yes. We deploy GA4 through Google Tag Manager on most platforms, including WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace and custom builds. For Shopify we work with its customer events and checkout limitations to choose the right approach.
