GTM Event Tracking for Every Action That Counts
We build Google Tag Manager triggers and tags for the actions that matter on your site: form submissions, button and phone clicks, file downloads, video views and scroll depth. Each event is named for GA4 and mapped to Google Ads and Meta conversions where it should count.

Why Event Tracking Often Misfires
Default GTM triggers are easy to set up and easy to get wrong. Small mistakes in trigger conditions lead to events that fire too often, too rarely or with missing context.
Form Events on Failed Submits
Generic form triggers fire when the button is clicked, even if validation fails, so leads are counted that never reached your inbox.
Events Without Useful Context
An event named 'click' with no parameters tells you something happened, but not which button, form or page drove it.
Conversions Not Matching GA4
Ad platform tags use different triggers than GA4 events, so each tool reports a different number for the same action.
The Events We Build in Your Container
Each event gets a defined trigger, a GA4 event name with parameters, and a matching conversion tag where the action is a business goal.
Form Submission Events
Success-based triggers using thank-you pages, success messages or form plugin callbacks instead of button clicks.
Click Tracking
Phone, email, WhatsApp, CTA and outbound link clicks captured with Click URL and Click Text variables.
Engagement Events
Scroll depth, YouTube video progress and file downloads tracked where they reflect real interest.
GA4 Event Parameters
Custom parameters such as form_name or cta_location, registered as custom dimensions in GA4.
Google Ads Conversion Tags
Conversion tags with conversion IDs and labels that fire on the same triggers as the matching GA4 event.
Meta Standard Events
Lead, Contact and other standard events with event IDs ready for deduplication with the Conversions API.
How an Event Moves From Click to Report
A visitor action is captured by a GTM trigger, enriched with variables and sent to each platform with consistent naming.
Visitor submits a form or clicks a button
Trigger checks page, element and conditions
Form name, page and click details collected
GA4, Google Ads and Meta tags send the event
Action marked as a key event or conversion

GTM Event Tracking FAQ
Straight answers before you book. Still have a question? Talk to us directly.
Which events should we track?
Start with actions tied to revenue or leads: form submissions, calls, bookings, sign-ups and purchases. Then add a small set of engagement signals, like key CTA clicks or pricing page views, that help explain behavior. We avoid tracking every click, since that clutters reports without adding insight.
How do you track forms that do not redirect to a thank-you page?
We use the most reliable signal the form offers. That might be a success message appearing, an AJAX response, or a JavaScript event from plugins like Gravity Forms, HubSpot or Contact Form 7. When none exist, we ask your developer to push a dataLayer event on success.
What is the difference between a GA4 event and a key event?
Every tracked action is an event in GA4. A key event is an event you mark as important, such as a lead or sign-up, so it shows up in key event reports. Key events can then be imported into Google Ads as conversions if needed.
Should Google Ads conversions come from GA4 or from GTM tags?
Both work. Native Google Ads conversion tags in GTM usually give faster, more complete data for bidding and support enhanced conversions. Imported GA4 key events are simpler to maintain. We recommend one approach per conversion and set others as secondary to avoid double counting.
Can you track clicks inside iframes or embedded widgets?
Only if the embedded tool supports it. GTM cannot see inside third-party iframes like some booking or chat widgets. Many of these tools send postMessage events or offer their own integrations, which we can listen for and pass into the dataLayer.
Services That Work Well Together
