THE PROBLEM

Why Your Current Attribution Misleads You

Attribution is only as good as the source data. Missing UTMs, self-referrals and inconsistent lookback windows quietly move credit to the wrong channels.

Direct and Unassigned Traffic

Untagged links, payment gateway referrals and cross-domain gaps dump real conversions into Direct or Unassigned in GA4.

Last Click Takes All the Credit

Branded search and retargeting close the sale and get full credit, while prospecting and content that created demand look unprofitable.

Inconsistent Windows and Models

GA4, Google Ads and Meta use different lookback windows and models, so comparing their numbers side by side is misleading.

WHAT WE IMPLEMENT

What We Implement for Reliable Attribution

We fix the inputs first, then configure GA4 and build reporting that shows credit under different models, so budget decisions are based on how channels actually interact.

01

UTM Governance

A UTM naming standard, link builder sheet and review of paid, email and social links so every campaign is tagged the same way.

02

Custom Channel Groups

GA4 custom channel groups that separate branded search, paid social prospecting, retargeting, email and affiliates.

03

Referral Exclusions

Unwanted referrals such as payment gateways and booking tools excluded, plus cross-domain measurement where journeys span domains.

04

Attribution Settings

GA4 reporting attribution model and key event lookback windows reviewed and set to match your sales cycle.

05

Model Comparison Views

Reports comparing data-driven, last-click and first-touch credit by channel, built from GA4 or the BigQuery export.

06

Conversion Path Analysis

Path reports showing common touchpoint sequences, time to convert and which channels tend to start or finish journeys.

HOW IT WORKS

How Attribution Data Is Assembled

Clean tagging produces reliable touchpoints, GA4 assigns credit under the chosen model, and comparison reports show how that credit shifts.

FAQ

Attribution FAQ

Which attribution model should we use?

There is no single correct model. Data-driven attribution in GA4 and Google Ads is a sensible default when you have enough conversions. We also show last-click and first-touch views so you can see which channels tend to open journeys and which tend to close them.

They use different attribution scopes, lookback windows and conversion timing. Google Ads reports by click date and counts only its own credit, while GA4 reports by event date across all channels. We document these differences so the gap is understood rather than chased.

Usually, yes. Common fixes include tagging email and social links, excluding payment and booking referrals, setting up cross-domain measurement and making sure consent mode and tags fire in the right order.

For businesses with GA4 BigQuery export and enough volume, we can build rule-based models such as position based or time decay in BigQuery. For most, GA4 model comparison plus clean data answers the key questions.

It can, when offline outcomes are imported back with the original click identifiers or UTMs. That is usually handled through offline conversion imports to Google Ads and CRM data joined in the reporting layer.
