SHOPIFY TRACKING

Shopify Tracking Built for Checkout Extensibility

Shopify has moved tracking into Customer Events and sandboxed pixels, and old thank-you page scripts no longer run. We rebuild your GA4, Google Ads and Meta tracking on the current Shopify architecture so every storefront and checkout event is captured.

THE PROBLEM

Shopify Changed How Tracking Works

Many stores still rely on legacy scripts, overlapping apps and pixels that were installed years apart. After the checkout upgrade, parts of that setup stopped firing without anyone noticing.

Legacy Scripts Stopped Running

Additional Scripts and checkout.liquid code no longer run on upgraded checkouts, so purchase tags placed there quietly went dark.

Apps Firing on Top of Each Other

The Google app, the Facebook app and a manual GTM install can all send a purchase. Platforms then count the same order more than once.

Checkout Steps Are Invisible

Without Customer Events, begin_checkout, shipping and payment steps are missing, so you cannot see where shoppers leave checkout.

WHAT WE IMPLEMENT

What We Build Inside Your Shopify Store

We use Shopify's supported tracking surfaces, not workarounds. Storefront events come from the theme, checkout events come from the Web Pixels API, and each platform receives one clean version of every event.

01

Customer Events Custom Pixel

A custom pixel subscribes to standard events like product_viewed, checkout_started and checkout_completed.

02

GA4 Ecommerce Mapping

Shopify event payloads are mapped to GA4 view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase with full items arrays.

03

Google Ads Purchase Conversion

A purchase conversion action with order value, currency, transaction ID and enhanced conversions user data.

04

Meta Pixel Standard Events

ViewContent, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout and Purchase with content_ids that match your product catalog.

05

App and Pixel Cleanup

Duplicate apps, old theme snippets and conflicting pixels are removed or scoped so each event fires once.

06

Consent Through Customer Privacy

Pixel permissions follow the Shopify Customer Privacy API and your banner, including Consent Mode v2 signals.

HOW IT WORKS

How Shopify Events Reach Your Platforms

Storefront and checkout events are captured by Shopify, passed to a single pixel, formatted per platform and checked against the order record.

FAQ

Shopify Tracking FAQ

Straight answers before you book. Still have a question? Talk to us directly.

Do I still need Google Tag Manager on Shopify?

Not always. GTM can run on the storefront theme, but it cannot run normally inside checkout. Checkout events come from the Customer Events pixel. Many stores use both: GTM for storefront flexibility and a custom pixel for checkout and purchase.

The app handles basic GA4 and Google Ads tracking and the Merchant Center feed. If you need more control over parameters or want everything in GTM, we may disable its tracking and keep the feed. We decide this during the audit.

Yes. Plus stores often have more checkout customization, such as checkout UI extensions, which we account for. The tracking itself uses the same Customer Events framework available on all plans.

Code in Additional Scripts stops running once the thank-you and order status pages are upgraded. We identify anything that still matters, like affiliate or survey tags, and move it to the supported pixel setup.

Yes. Shopify order webhooks or a server-side GTM container can send purchases to Meta Conversions API and GA4. We usually get browser tracking clean first, then add the server layer with proper deduplication.
